Infection

A dental abscess is typically is a proliferation of bacteria that are causing damage at the tip of the root of the tooth. They keep multiplying in the bone of your upper or lower jaw. This process is very painful and may cause pain, swelling and a general lethargic feeling.

Usually when a tooth gets an infection, it is due to bacterial contamination of the root pulp. The bacteria make their way through the tooth structure and eventually enter the pulp of the tooth. Consequences of an infection or abscess can be very serious as the pulp is integrated in to the blood stream of your body and virulent bacteria can travel into your blood system.

The spread of this infection has been directly linked to heart attack, stroke, diabetes and numerous other serious conditions.
