Dental Anxiety

Anxious about visiting the dentist? You're not alone.

An estimated 40 million Americans avoid the dentist due to fear and anxiety.

This fear may stem from traumatic experiences as a child, or in the past.

At New England Dental Care we want to help you overcome that fear by making you feel comfortable in the chair with just a few easy steps.

Breathe

One of the easiest ways to overcome dental phobia while sitting in the dentist's chair is to simply breathe. Deep breathing helps lower your heart rate and will calm your nerves.

Bring a friend or family member

Next time you have a dentist appointment, ask a friend or family member to accompany you.  You'll be much more relaxed knowing that you have a friend or family member sitting in the waiting room, standing by until you're finished.

Reward Yourself

After your dentist appointment, try to reward yourself with a fun activity or trip to somewhere you enjoy going. Whether it's seeing a movie or going shopping, having something to look forward to throughout your visit will help ease your mind.

Find your perfect dentist

The most important thing about getting over dental phobia is finding a dentist you like and trust. Look for someone that will listen to your fears and who will accommodate any special needs. At New England Dental, our dentists will go over all treatment prior to doing anything in your mouth. At your appointment, your treatment will be thoroughly explained to you so there's not any confusion or any apprehension about what kind of treatment you're going to be recieving.
